My cravings during detox

On the first week, my cravings were not so bad. I was so excited about the detox I didn’t really think about the food I normally eat.

The second week is a different story. I don’t know if it’s my period or not, I got it on the weekend. Yesterday my energy was low and I was a bit bloated, spinning class was not that good either. I craved for chinese pork bun all day and  some sweet asian cakes, at dinner time, I was in a bad mood and really wanted KFC bbq rods! I also craved for sweet bread.

Marinated Sea Bass Fillets

From Waitrose website. Serves 2

You will need:

4 sea bass fillets

¼ tsp ground coriander
¼ tsp ground cumin
¼ tsp hot chilli powder
2.5cm fresh root ginger, peeled and finely grated
1 tbsp clear honey
Juice of ½ lemon
2 tbsp olive oil
Salt and freshly ground black pepper

  1. Rinse and dry the fillets. Place the marinade ingredients into a shallow dish and mix together, then add the fillets and spoon the marinade over. Leave in the fridge for at least 30 minutes, covered, rubbing the marinade into the fillets once.
  2. Preheat the oven to 220°C, gas mark 7. Line a roasting tin with enough foil to make a generous envelope. Grease the foil with a little olive oil, add the sea bass fillets and any remaining marinade. Fold over the edges of the foil to create a puffed-up, sealed envelope and bake the fish for 10 minutes or until the flesh is firm. Remove from the oven and leave to rest for a further 3 minutes.
  3. Remove the fish from the foil and place on warmed serving plates. Pour over any cooking juices. Season and serve with steamed organic greens, e.g. asparagus, green beans.

Detox day 5 -8

The weekend came and I thought it was going to be hard since we like to eat out on the weekends. But it wasn’t as bad as I thought.

Day 5

It’s friday! I wasn’t sure If I was happy or sad. Me & Ryan usually have a culinary weekend planned but since I’m on detox, we could not really try a new restaurant or a drink out .

The day started with the lemon water remedy. I cooked spinach omellete for breakfast and had organic vegetable juice. Mid morning snack I had an organic banana. Then I headed to the gym for Spinning class and body pump class. For lunch I had 3 rice cakes with hummus and spinach. Mid afternoon snack I had a few almonds and a cup of green tea. We went to our favourite pub for dinner, called the Wavendon Arms, the food there is really good. I didn’t have many choices with the menu, so I had duck salad with plum sauce. I also had gin and tonic for drink and for dessert I had a cup of peppermint tea.

Day 6

Lemon water as usual to start. For breakfast I had sliced organic banana and live natural yogurt and organic vegetable juice. Mid morning snack I had a few almonds. For lunch we went to Nandos and I had a quarter of chicken, spicy wild rice and grilled corn cob, that was a treat! We went to the cinema in the afternoon so I had popcorn for mid afternoon snack, while Ryan had double scoop sunday from Baskin Robins! oh well. For dinner I cooked smoked tofu and boiled egg in gravy and steamed pak choy with brown rice. I also had a cup of green tea before bed.

Day 7

Lemon water as usual to start. For breakfast I had sliced banana and live natural yogurt and organic vegetable juice. I went to London to meet up with a friend so I brought a few almonds with me for mid morning snack. We went to dim sum for lunch in soho, I chose the steamed vegetable dumpling and steamed kai lan and green tea for my drink. For mid-afternoon snack I had a few almonds again. Then at dinner, I had rice cakes, humus and smoked salmon.

Day 8

I’m so happy that I got through the first week of detox with no problem at all. This morning was a bit of a rush, I had lemon water as soon as I got up, then organic vegetable juice. I grabbed an organic banana for breakfast. Mid morning snack was two heaped table spoons of live natural yogurt then I headed to the gym for spinning class. For lunch I had 4 rice cakes with hummus and smoked salmon. Mid afternoon snack I had a few almonds. At dinner I had marinated sea bass fillets and steamed organic green beans. It’s so delicious, I will post the recipe.

During the detox I drink plenty of filtered water (minimum 1.5 litre).  I use BRITA for the filter.

Dr. Joshi detox day 3 & 4

Today is the 4th day of the detox program. So far I find it easy. I don’t have any difficulties finding organic produce. I mostly shop at ASDA and Marks and Spencer.

During the first 2 days, I had mild headaches, I’m guessing it’s caused by sugar withdrawal, usually I don’t drink soft drinks, fruit juice or sugary drink anyway but I tend to eat  a lot of fruits like grapes, longan, mango and they’re full of natural sugar.

Day 3

Started with the lemon water remedy. Breakfast was spinach omellette  and vegetable juice, again I had organic carrots, celery and ginger. Morning tea snacks I had a few almonds and organic green tea. Lunch was pak choy with silken tofu served with brown rice. Afternoon snack was 1 organic banana. Then I did pilates at the gym. Dinner I cooked stir fried rice noodles with roast chicken from the night before, bean sprouts, carrots, cabbage, and pak choy. I use extra virgin olive oil and sunflower oil only.

Day 4

Lemon water remedy to start the day then I headed to the gym for 45 minutes work out, a combination of cycling, cross trainer and rowing. I also used the steam room today to get all the sweats out and hopefully the toxins out as well and then I indulged myself with body scrub – rice and cherry blossom scrub. For breakfast I had sliced banana with low-fat natural set yogurt and organic vegetable juice (carrots, ginger and celery). Morning tea snack was a few almonds and organic green tea. Lunch was left over rice noodles from the night before. I’m going to have 2 rice cakes for afternoon tea and dinner Ryan is cooking pan-fried salmon with steam organic green beans and anchovy-rosemary sauce (Jamie Oliver’s recipe).

I’ve noticed some differences during the detox. I can see my tummy is flatter and my metabolism is better. I go to the toilet more regular and easier without the help of chilli. I’m guessing it’s the elimination of wheat products and red meat that help the changes.

Dr. Joshi Detox day 1 and 2

I have changed my lifestyle starting a month ago . It started with bikram yoga and then gym and now i’m starting a detox program by Dr. Joshi. It’s based on the book titled Joshi’s Holistic Detox 21 days to a healthier slimmer you – for life.

The detox is basically putting food into groups based on its alkaline or acidic state. You try to eliminate the acidic food and increase the alkaline food in your diet to put your body in the alkaline state.

Top ten dr Joshi detox rules are:

  1. No red meat
  2. No dairy produce
  3. No fruit – except bananas
  4. No wheat, gluten, yeast
  5. No alcohol
  6. No biscuits, cakes, doughnuts
  7. No jams, spreads – except honey
  8. No coffee, decaffeinated coffee or tea – except herbal teas
  9. No sugar, chocolates or sweets
  10. No artificially produced flavourings

This is the third time I do the detox, from previous experience it works well and I lost a few kg during the detox. Back then I didn’t exercise much, I just did 30 minutes walks 4 times a week. So I’m hoping this time I will lose more weight and toned at the same time since I’m in the gym 5 x a week minimum. with combination of spinning, pilates, body pump, cross trainer and rowing.

Day 1

I started the detox yesterday, I started the day with warm water with lemon juice, it’s a good liver cleanser and followed by vegetable juice, i had carrot, celery and ginger (all organic). Then, I had omelette for breakfast (2 eggs seasoned with pepper and salt). Since I changed my lifestyle, i try to eat less but often, so in a day I usually had 5 small meals every 3 hours. In between breakfast and lunch I had an organic banana. Then I went to spinning class (45 minutes). For lunch I had brown rice and stir fried of pak choy and silken tofu with garlic and a splash of oyster sauce. I know Joshi says no sauces allowed but i think a splash of oyster or soy sauce to taste should be fine. In between Lunch and Dinner I had a few of pumpkin seeds and green tea. Then for dinner I had grilled cod fillets with steamed organic green beans, I found the meal was a bit bland so to satisfy my taste buds I had a teaspoon of low fat natural set yogurt.

Day 2

This morning was an early start, I had 7am spinning class, I love to exercise in the morning but in my gym they only do tuesday morning spinning class. As soon as I got up I had my lemon water remedy then, headed to the gym. It was a hard work but it was worthed. For breakfast. I had sliced organic banana with low fat natural set yogurt and vegetable juice, again I had carrot, celery and ginger (all organic). In between breakfast and lunch I had a few pumpkin seeds with green tea. For lunch I had tuna salad with no dressing. In between Lunch and Dinner I had a few organic carrot sticks and for dinner we cooked homemade roast chicken with roasted parsnips, sweet potatoes and courgette (all organic).
